Jefe Havanese is a breeder of quality show and pet havanese located near Minneapolis, Minnesota. Being involved in both the conformation show ring and obedience ring, we have the privilege of owning multiple AKC Champions and "Champions in Waiting." Our dogs live in our home and are very much a part of our family. We are members of the Havanese Club of America and a founding member of the NorthStar Havanese Club.
Jefe Havanese is also a member of a small network of cooperating Havanese breeders in the Minneapolis area. We share the same philosophies and standards for raising, showing and placing our dogs and puppies. We hold a monthly "Open House" where interested people can learn about havanese, have questions answered and meet our dogs in a comfortable, home environment and experience their playful antics in person.
All of our dogs are house dogs, not kennel dogs. Since the Havanese is a companion breed, they like LOTS of attention. Our dogs roam around the house with us during the day and find a human bed or pillow to sleep on during the night!! The dogs go in or out as they please, to romp and play in their fenced yard or just cozy up inside on the couch or a doggie bed. We also co-own several show dogs that do not live with us, (we've placed them in loving pet homes), yet we retain the right to show them to obtain their breed championship.

The Havanese is truly one of the most delightful of the small breeds. They are curious and exceptionally intelligent. Their love of attention comes from their adorable little show off natures. They are natural clowns and will keep you continually entertained. They love to sit somewhere high - especially on the back of sofas and chairs. They thrive on human companionship, love children and do best when there are plenty of laps to sit on. Since they are an odorless and non-shedding breed, they make wonderful pets for allergy sufferers.
We CERF our dogs every 12 months at the University of Minnesota Veterinary Opthalmology Clinic. We also take our litters of puppies to the University of Minnesota Animal Neurology Department to receive "BAER" testing by a veterinary audiologist to determine if there are any hearing problems. In addition, our dogs go to the University of MN Orthopedic Department to obtain OFA certification x-rays on hips, elbows, and patellas.
It is our policy that only dogs that have attained their AKC breed Championships will be used in our breeding program. We take pride in our high standards and plan our breedings accordingly. While our goal is always for beautiful conformation, we feel good health and outgoing temperaments are just as important and continually strive for the "total dog. Our goal is to place high quality pet and show puppies that adhere to the AKC standard, into loving family homes.
